Again, I have no f idea what is going but my question is this…

WoT is a client level bandaid for a larger spam problem…at the network level, I’m assuming this is correct?

If so, then the problem is larger than just reply guy, also an assumption?because there are a 100m bots or more for every one of us

If so, PoW would (reasonably) answer this question at the network level but would require hardware? Correct? Or at least… a built out node on a personal server? Or no?

I hate to say this but a ledger that I used to adore had this issue with bots and there was a part of the code I think time leap… anyway, the network was fixed by making each “note” a tiny fractional cost… can this happen here? Say a sat a post/reply or something a little bigger than what bots would pay?

Hardware can be expensive, a server alone was once a big deal for me but a fraction of a penny on a free wallet? Worth it.

This could just be a ramble that makes no sense, I don’t totally understand this network or the relays yet.

Could such a system be instated whereby a note has a minimum cost of 1 sat (with option to increase) and the sat(s) are set up like a "bounty" where the first person to reply would claim the sat(s)?

This could come alongside a feed filtering option to only view notes greater than x sats, I think a system like this could be very interesting.

Although, while writing I just realised the problem with this... 😣 fucking ReplyGuy would sweep up all the sats... could it work on a pay it forward system? Where replies also cost to post and have the same sort of "bounty system" 🤔 I guess this would lead to sats perpetually locked up in a loop 😣

Should go to relays to fund them. Although I think a higher once off is better spam deterrent

Or if the minimum post cost was greater than one sat it could be a 50/50 split (customizable as other splits are) between relay and 1st reply

IF… then, that’s my thought cost split but would need to be 2 sat minimum which is still affordable but will any of this scale when btc is much more costly?

Well, as bitcoin scales, higher layers will be intergrated and mSats will at some point become a thing

And would it be the first relay to propogate the note receiving the sats or some sort of split...? Positing cost would have to be quite high to make a split work across all relays 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm not sure I can get behind any method to limit notes by requiring payment unless it is to a paid relay for access to specific content.

GM! ☕️ I don’t like the idea either… feels like a paywall. When this was implemented in a different scenario we were able to make the cost a fraction of a fraction of a penny… and I don’t totally understand relays, yet. But I do understand decentralized networks and I know they need a natural immunity or “line of defense” against bots

I'm right with you. I'm still wrapping my head around how relays act now and how some people want them to act in the future. It's not an easy solution, for sure, as spam will be a bigger issue with more nostr adoption.

I do think nostr:npub16jdfqgazrkapk0yrqm9rdxlnys7ck39c7zmdzxtxqlmmpxg04r0sd733sv has come up with a decent solution at the personal relay level and then the user can just decide to toggle on WoT during a spam storm and cast a smaller net of relays

Hosting my own relay is definitely on my to do list! Unfortunately so are many other things with higher priority 😅
