I'm trying to bring people off WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber and whatnot for yeeaars now - it's a grind, even with freedom-minded people!
My most successful alternative is Signal. SimpleX is a candidate.
But Nostr can become the real deal for online communities to thrive in freedom. And you login with your nsec, bringing over all your contacts, chats ... and also zaps β‘ It's magic!
I'm willing to try and test it with a committed group. And then eventually use it with my real-life workshop clients community.
There's not too much of experience to share just yet. But we can chat about what future I feel is possible with community-building on Nostr π

Ha, I knew it. DMs on Nostr are super unreliable. I replied on Amethyst and on Primal, but messages don't go through or just sporadically. One of the many reasons why Nostr for now is more of a plaything and can't be used properly for business purposes.

For sure, I am OG. I am cultural meme creator. Part of the first to walk through and open doors for the collective. Which is why I am here. So where am I with this? The idea for Nostr to be your self-owned, private and censorship resistant community hub for your business network stands. But the tech has to work reliably before you can bring more people over. With open source projects that just takes way longer. Priorities are set based on developer preferences and availability or what funding is made available for. Not necessarily what most people would need Nostr to do. The projects are scattered and don't necessarily coordinate.

So, after a deeper healing retreat, I realized that I gotta do it the other way. Not standing on the moral high ground and urging what's the 'right' thing to be used. But pick up my customers where they are. Yes, that means on Meta, Google and all the shenanigans. And then introduce them step-by-step to the Nostr elements that work reliably + have feature benefits for them. Zapping is a strong one.
