here on the internet we discuss ideas not locations. but a 401k is the usa version of a pension. it's not uncommon that i'd use ai to translate portuguese to english to discuss ideas. where talking about ctrl + c, ctrl + v, new tab, chatgpt.com, ctrl + v. The problem here is he has probably translated pub as bar... Bars are not pubs and even if he do a good job then pubs are not created equally so there will never be a good Portuguese explaination for them because unless he has been to a load of pubs and compared them with your pub how would he know?

That is a good point. America doesn't have pubs. Lots of bars and I do love a good sports bar, but they are not pubs.
Pubs came in all shapes and sizes and its more about the community that frequent them than any other aspect.
I've been in stunningly beautiful pubs that have no atmosphere, whereas my local shithole is always full of my friends. I can have a chat and a catchup with them, either about quantum's threat to encryption or their ex wives or the football game they are watching 😂

Some are, some aren't.
Pubs, like bars come in all different shapes and sizes, they intersect bars and overlap, but both have their own space on the spectrum as well.
Historically pubs started life as people opening their front rooms to passing travellers, they then turned into Inn's where you could lodge and stable your horse. They then became social community hubs, then then became Wetherspoons and made a guy called Tim extremely rich 😂
They are also dying in the UK, which is sad and which was the start of this thread I believe.
Historically more so, but even today, yes. Treatise between countries were signed in pubs. People like my great grandfather bought the family farm in a pub. In my life time I have found some really interesting characters there and have had some really great conversations too as they are used to knit the entire community together.
Sometimes in these retarded economic times the last commercial venture surviving in the village is a pub... when that goes everyone laments it.
In the last few years there has been a massive attack on pubs with covid as well as an massive increase in rates to put them out of business. Its another vector of a control to close these place down as people get arrest online for tweets.
