My PSA allows for this reality.

However I'll digress and respond further.

I understand the monero user to be a rational human who uses whatever tool works best for him or her, even if that includes fiat or bitcoin.

The bitcoiner uses bitcoin hopefully (sometimes not, I'll get to that in the next sentence) but probably fiat quite frequently, as the need arises, yet posts online about monero being a shitcoin.

Even worse if he's a NGU hodler using bitcoin only as an investment vehicle...

Monero users are interested in peer to peer digital cash, and the more private the better. As hopefully, SOME bitcoiners are. Again, a lot of bitcoiners are holding paper only and DO NOT SPEND.

Then I come to Nostr and see a bunch of LN users/devs shitting on monero calling it a shitcoin... It just seems counterproductive and counterintuitive. At least someone like nostr:npub1lxktpvp5cnq3wl5ctu2x88e30mc0ahh8v47qvzc5dmneqqjrzlkqpm5xlc is logically consistent when he gives people shit for using fiat at all... I actually respect that. As much as I'd like him to take a more measured look at monero as a grassroots project that cannot "pump and dump" on someone, has no pre-mine or self-enriched founder like ETH or XRP does...

My biggest problem with Monero is that it's not Bitcoin. Creating a Bitcoin circular economy requires using Bitcoin. Using Monero is not using Bitcoin. Monero is not a layer on Bitcoin, it is its own economy and culture that is in direct competition with the Bitcoin economy and culture. Both cultures are incredibly small and thus the Monero has a real dilutive effect to the Bitcoin economy.

It comes down to the *kind* of culture and economy you want to see in the world.

As a oldie and 90s cypherpunk type dude

the principles of #monero are closer to my heart than whatever #bitcoin is turning into today.

but obv these are all decisions we have to make for ourselves 👍

Maybe bitcoiners know they still need to use shitcoins to conduct commerce because that’s what most merchants want. While working for/waiting for everyone to discover bitcoin is better money, we’ve decided the USD is still a better shitcoin than Monero ?

Maybe... I find it hard to believe that someone could look at the US dollar and think it's better than monero... But sure, one could have that thought for sure.

It would show a lack of understanding of the origin and ethos of monero though IMO.

I think the fact that monero has been delisted and detectives and police hate tracking monero, as well as it's dominance in dark web markets are all marks in it's favor

I think the USD is a better shitcoin because everyone who has goods and services I want will accept it as payment. Eventually they will want some of my bitcoin for themselves and they will figure out how to receive it as payment (on chain, liquid, lightning, etc). I don’t want to hold monero, and I don’t think many merchants I interact with will ever prefer monero. IMO, people who don’t think monero is a shitcoin would do better focusing on convincing merchants to like it rather than trying to convince bitcoiners to like it.

Interesting that, "accepted universally" is your reason dollars are better.

At the beginning, no one accepted bitcoins, that didn't mean it didn't have the inherent properties to be better money than the dollar.

As for merchants accepting monero. They do.

I've never seen anything for #Bitcoin as comprehensive as this is for #Monero. It'd be cool if someone could build this for bitcoiners.

Money being accepted by people who have something I want is the whole point of money. I think bitcoin is the best money but not everyone yet agrees so I convert my money back to the one they want when needed. We’ll see in 10yrs who was right I guess. In the meantime, I’ll continue telling everyone monero is a shitcoin and they should focus on Bitcoin only. I’m sure you’ll continue to promote your view as well. Eventually, the market will force one of us to change our opinion.

merchants already prefer monero

The merchants I interact with almost all still prefer the USD shitcoin which is not on your chart and was my point. If I find someone who has something I want and they only accept monero, then maybe I’ll convert some bitcoin to that shitcoin instead of the USD shitcoin.

sure

from the perspective of acceptance

both BTC and XMR are shitcoins

just speaking to your "would do better focusing on convincing merchants" comment
