mostly because they don’t reach a moment where the app provides value for them. Your making an assumption that zaps are the thing driving people away, but that is not been our experience when talking to people.
most people i follow here are also posting on x. also the universe feed is all over the place and not a very engaging experience for me. i would be on here more if i could easily package/compartmentalize different content for myself to digest (maybe i can and am missing it?) similar to communities on reddit, for example.
There's nothing wrong with zaps, but it's just a silly gimmick feature. At the end of the day, a diversity of community is what people need. Talking about Bitcoin all day every day sucks. The only good engagement that happens here comes from the Mastodon bridge.
