Absolutely no hate from this end cause I know open source dev work is thankless and often payless too.

...but doesnt make this any less true 😆

or you team up with an artists and build a site for them.

I built itdv.podtards.com for nostr:npub14c7ksq2wln0s9nftjlr0wv2vqpg5xzvw7jezl3whczc0ff2y97eqerl5l2.

Cool site!

What does it accomplish?

Landing pages are super important for artists. Something they can point ppl to and hear all their catalog immediately, no fuss.

Bingo, nostr:npub14c7ksq2wln0s9nftjlr0wv2vqpg5xzvw7jezl3whczc0ff2y97eqerl5l2 wanted something that people could just go to and listen to their music. Podcasting apps dont make great music apps so I built this.

What should go on landing page besides music? Isn’t a Nostr profile on a music app basically your landing page?

Yup, I'd think so. But I don't think that existed until now. We are pointing ppl to v4vmusic.com but then ppl have to search and other artists are there. Its good not perfect. The thing chadf made is specific for doerfels so its like a personal page as soon as user lands. 1 less click so to speak.

V4v doesn’t have profile pages?

It might? Not sure, its only recently been launched.

Let me know exactly what artist want on their landing page and I might be able to create a landing page mode, where people going to that mode will see everything an artist wants them to see, while the rest of the website looks as it did

What do they need?

Automatic splits! I haven't checked but I think you implemented it.

Also, thisnwould be more a feature request/change but theres a lot of info avail within the rss feeds. When we upload an rss, your back end should be automatically pulling from those tags.

What kind of info?

Everything lol. All the track metadata: location of audio file, location of album art, all the splits including lnaddress/keysend address, if its part of an album or single, copyright info if there is any, publication dates, etc etc.

Keysend is not a decentralized protocol from what I understand and requires a server

All of this is available in back end. I could try to map from RSS but I need an rss example

Splits work with NwC but without there are multiple QRs

I think the multiple qrs are a deal breaker for most normies but prob fine, for now, for nostriches

Yeah it’s not ideal. I don’t know of a workaround yet. I don’t think keysend can work without a centralized coordinator.

One thing that I think is important not to conflate is there are two distinct "users" when it comes to this music ecosystem who have drastically different needs.

You have artists (content) and fans (consumers).

Which one is your particular app targeting?

Fans want ease of use. Easy to find the song they want or discover new music. It needs to be easy to zap (min clicks) and easy to set up (or better yet, not at all). But for the stickiness factor, sharing is vitally important. Share tracks share playlists share zap comments. Make it easy for other ppl to hear what youre hearing. Get the preview cards looking right. The app only grows if its easy for the next person to onboard.

On the content side, you actually want some barrier to entry. Friction keeps a certain degree of slop out. That minimal amount of effort cuts out most the shit. Its a balance though, obviously dont make it hard on the users. The killer sauce in this ecosystem is interoperability. One change one update one new upload published in any one of the apps here should appear/publish everywhere all at once. Nostr obviously fixes a lot of this but the pipes are running via rss. The ones who can join the two will win.

I would add that we have two distribution points that both claim to be open source and don’t work together. In my heart I think this is a publishing problem. If a musician distributes to distrokid, it goes to 66+ platforms. If we distribute to V4V it should go to any protocol and the artist controls the publishing rights and payment splits. Same idea, distribute once it goes anywhere and money comes back to artist publisher account.
