Working in the oilfield and making the conscious decision to "sacrifice" steady work in order to experience working all over the damned place really opened eyes for me and it's an excellent way to internalise the lessons of books like that. It isn't just the US either, it's power projection rather than economic collaboration

100%, Im going to try to encourage my son to become a welder or other skilled tradesman so he can travel and find work. I hope to God I can keep him out of college.
Sounds like a good choice to me. It's probably got more longevity as a learned skill than any college degree right now
