A 2TB drive has at least 5 years left!

How much time does a 1tb drive have left?

year or so? not sure. depends in txindex settings and whatnot.

I'd like to learn more about txindex settings.

probably not that useful to have on these days, most people just use mempool.space for that. I like it for querying random txids and doing stuff locally.

so if i turn that off i wont be able to use my local instance of mempool?

not sure how mempool works, just referring to bitcoin core

if you run your own instance of mempool, it requires bitcoin core and electrs as dependencies.

Once running your ow instance, you dont have visit the website and just use mempool space locally on your own node.

If turning of txindex will disrupt this, ill just get a new 4TB NVME

Storage become very cheap in the last year even on SSD πŸ™Œ

yup! got myself a 4TB ssd. wasn't too bad! no more HDDs in my machine!

love it when you talk dirty πŸ˜œπŸ˜‚

had no hdd for the last 2 year on any machine ( 3Tb on both machine and 1tb extra

$380 for 4TB 2.5" SSD . . Not cheap. That's what I need now for my KODI media center and all it's movies.

That's $760 w/a backup. Not cheap.

Found a couple used 4TB spinners for $35 each. That'll have to do for now.

saw different 4tb ( even m.2) for 250€ on amazon tese days

May I ask what do you use a normal OS with Bitcoin Core GUI or something else like start9 or umbrel?

Tried bitcoin core on Linux, mynode, umbrel and ended up choosing start9 for stability, security and ease of use.

I use linux (nixos) with bitcoind running as a systemd service. if I need the gui I shut down the service and open qt.

I run core-lightning next to it as well (I was one of the first 5 nodes on lightning mainnet, and that same node is still running). I probably have the oldest running lightning node.

Dude. I don't care what anyone says. That's fucking cool.

On a related note, your LN address is boned.

yeah still migrating. copying 1tb over to the new drive.

my zaps are down until I finish the migration πŸ˜…

You could always run a pruned node :)

pruned nodes don't play well with CLN

Ohh I didn’t know that

When upgrading, do you have to resyncand download all the chain again or is there a quicker way? I am limited on data access and I want to do the same thing. Thanks.
