my 2c on #onlyzaps since people are still confused as to why someone would not want to see reactions on their posts, and why I think zaps are fundamentally different and not just about trying to get people to send you more money.

for me, onlyzaps is simply a spam protection against likes

Personal choice.

A love being able to emote react AND zap.

Zapping is new and it doesn’t have a clear message, marketing strategy, jingle, nor commercial.

Question: What is the purpose of a zap?

On one hand, people see it as v4v. On the other, people send a zap without any reason. Thus, new people will see it as a way of getting money. If someone zaps an introduction post, what’s the value in that? Same applies to GM posts. I personally like to “like” a comment but not zap it. I’ve read posts from users referring to zaps as a way to earn money. As a result, people will assume they can just make a post to receive a few sats.

You might have read my posts about someone creating an innovative monetization model that works, which can include zapping. If zapping is fundamentally different, then create a commercial explaining the difference. In your case, I think viewing zaps as tips would be more suitable. Tips are typically reserved for exceptional service. The commercial would also help with expectations surrounding zaps. But if zapping is indeed arbitrary and at the discretion of the zapper, then create a jingle for that too. Just my 25 sats.

And some posts are worth zapping. Dev work is one of them. But a meme, a reposted meme, or a Not Your Keys Not Your Cheese post is cool, but not worthy of a zap.
