Suggest to move away from the slide up UI for posts. It’s slow, unintuitive and cannot work for billions of events.
A better way is to create a modal or move to a new screen.

Actually, a modal may not be the best idea since it’s disable the sidebar.

The overly is essentially a modal. The overlay is a pretty central mechanic that allows for some interesting metaphors, e.g. for feeds filtered by relay. By slow, do you mean the animation is too slow, or it's laggy?
Yeah the animation is too slow. It’s nice for small number interactions but not suited for social media apps where ppl spend hours. It needs to be minimalist and super fast transitions between screens.
Minimalist because the amount of UI information change on the screen should be minimal; it helps read more content and not burden the brain.
Fast transition screens to minimize delay.
