Whenever my Christian family or friends who have been captured by “weaponized universals” thinking say something like “render to Caesar what is Caesar’s,” I reply with, “Whose image is on a Bitcoin?”

What do you mean by weaponized universals?

Whenever the analysis of a verse or topic consists of about 2 seconds of thinking and follow up questions aren’t tolerated. Another example would be during Covid when “love your neighbor” was used by big-brained Christian thought leaders to pressure Christians into getting injected or wearing masks.

Thanks for clarifying, may the Lord grant us discernment and courage!

To your point--Rom 13:1ff is a continued thought about not taking vengeance in the tail end of the previous chapter. It's too often read out of that context and treated like it's a 'blank check' for the civil authorities.

I look to Matt. 17:24-27 more than Rom 13 on the question of taxation...

Hadn't considered there's no image on the money.

Someone also said that to me! Jesus was a statist?

Jesus’ “render to Caesar” comment ≈ Hayek’s “sly roundabout” comment.

To paraphrase something I’ve heard nostr:nprofile1qqsw3znfr6vdnxrujezjrhlkqqjlvpcqx79ys7gcph9mkjjsy7zsgygpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuumwdae8gtnnda3kjctvyn202h say - “bitcoin doesn’t need martyrs, be smarter”.

Instead of getting lost in semantics and fruitless debates, often it’s best to focus on the Good.
