Causally observing with nostr:npub19pj6f0nc9q6xr26qe3g8m6xe3hwe0d6p6zcvf57cm3kayghjdj0slnlenu that in 9 out of 10 contemporary children's books, fathers are nowhere to be found. Vanished. #dadstr

Couldn't it just be sampling bias?

Given that we’ve been actively looking for books which include fathers, I don’t think so; quite the opposite.

Do those books include mothers? From what I can see, most kiddie books don't even bother with humans or adults altogether.

Different country, different culture, but still...

They do, almost exclusively.

Have you considered writing one on your own?

The ones that we did find about dads are shallow “father’s day” books that we can’t care to read more than twice. Hardly any sweet/fun/insightful messages but we won’t stop looking.

Found one in French that is worth it (“Ce que Papa m’a Dit” by Astrid Desbordes) and I’ll just write the translation by hand on it. So much better.
