I'm slowly clearing out a room to set up an office/creative/learning space. I've never really had that in my home before so I'm getting excited over all the possibilities.

I have a work office & I have come to learn there, that I really hate sitting at a desk. Time spent in this spot will be voluntary so I want it to be pleasant, obviously. I've thought about a standing desk, but I spend a lot of time standing and moving already... so I guess I'm leaning towards something of a floor sitting desk. Any for-purchase choices are horrid, though. I'm too short for a coffee table to function as desk space.

That leads me to building one, which pushes usefulness further into the future. I don't like that. I've never built furniture, so I do like that aspect. For the interem, I can stack books & plop a board on top, I suppose.

...because classy is my middle name.

i'm one of those lunatics who likes to sit like a buddha at my desk, cross legged and all... but most desk chairs you can't sit this way, about one in 50 desk chairs give you space to do this, about one in 5 of them you assemble and you can just leave this stupid part out of the assembly

i have a standing desk now, but it also lowers down to sitting with a no armrest chair... i probably need to get a squishy mat underneath my foot area and maybe i would use it this way all the time

The lunatics are the ones pretending chairs are comfortable.

ikr?

probably gonna have to find some squishy surface to stand on... the kidney pain especially makes sitting bad, and the peripheral neuropathy

standing up i remember easier that i probably need to go for a walk somewhere, anywhere

That's tough. A nice rug might be enough padding to relieve joint pressure but not so much that the urge to walk get skewed.

yeah, i'm thinking to use a rug, maybe two layers

Keep an eye on local marketplaces & estate sales. People often end up with those beautiful, thick Persian rugs, not knowing what they are & sell them insanely cheap.

I've thought about a standing desk too, and mleku has got me thinking about sitting desks now.

I should build something excessively configurable, and hideous to behold.

My current desk is a leather-topped antique writing desk with a roll-down cover, I could pass it down to one of the boys.

If it gives you any more drive to do it, I'm certain my dawn-built desk will be just as hideous (if not more so) 😊

A standing desk is the same height as a bar top, 42". Plenty of options for bar height stools and you can sit and work or stand without hunching over. This is how i configured my last home office. It worked for me.

Depending on how much surface space you need, a few shelf brackets, a plank and some wall space can become your workspace.

Great idea! I hadn't thought about brackets. That would probably work just fine for a time.
