I've had some really horrible life experiences and each one brought me closer to this place, at this time, with these people.

Isn't it weird to look back and realize that the good and the bad are connected and the bad can change our path in a way that leads to a greater good?
I guess that's tied to the concept of Providence or Fate.
Although your experience may seem traumatic when you are going through it, you can learn from it and become a better person in the end.
Many of the best things in my life came from dark times. I would never give up those hard times because I would lose the benefits I received through them.
