Many of us find ourselves tiptoeing the line between exercising our freedom of speech and practicing self-censorship.
Discussion
There is a difference between self-censorship and self-restraint. I find that there is a lot of freedom in not sharing all my opinions on the internet.
Indeed, I meant self-censorship in this case. Self-restraint would be more akin to holding back because of your values, ethics, or desire to be respectful and constructive.
Yes, NVK's post may arguably fall into the category of self-censorship.
I was making a more general comment about your response that many are toeing a line.
Self-restraint is as you described, but it is also self-control in the face of high emotions or impulsiveness. Given the high emotions and high stakes of a lot of current world events, I am only making the point that it is just as important to maintain composure as it is to exercise freedom of speech.
