Do you think that one day people on nostr will be able to make a living from their content?

What will it take? Open up nostr to advertising?

Bitcoin and tech companies should pay influencers on nostr for their content?

it makes sense for this to happen at some point in the future, but right now with such a small userbase, it's not sustainable because current users end up being bleed dry trying to support all content. economies of scale...

For something practical like selling goods and services (ie food or soap or tallow) maybe, if it’s a small scale business.

Yes, I think people will be able to make a living from their content. It’s just going to take a lot more education and understanding before we get there. I don’t think the pay will look like it does currently on other socials but I feel like people will be able to earn sats and live off them.

I think bitcoin companies, tech companies, and market places will pay creators for their honest opinions and feedback. As well as consumers who find the information/opinions valuable. I also think bitcoin will change how we discern what’s valuable from what’s wasteful.

Maybe advertisers and marketing agencies will play some part but I really feel it’ll be organic and similar to grassroots movements.

There is no need to "open up Nostr to advertising." Nostr is entirely permissionless and anyone who wants to can advertise here. There's just very little value in doing so because the user-base is so small, and you can't target the advertising to make sure the users most likely to buy your product will see it.

That said, I do think it will be possible for content creators to make a living here. We need a few things to fall into place for that to be a reality, such as better content discovery, a variety of algorithms for users to choose from to surface content according to their preferences, and more clients that specialize in certain content formats. And, of course, we need more users for all of this to be sustainable long-term.

Until/Unless Twitter royally pisses people off and there's a mass exodus (and not a fake exodus like Bluesky, people really leave permanently) I don't see it getting to that point. Twitter just has the network effect thats very hard dethrone. Nostr would need to get much much larger for content creators to pull in enough zaps to make a living.

Most people on Twitter don’t even know about Nostr

Like who’s telling them?

We can all help by sharing nostr apps or educational content about nostr like:

It's not this that will trigger a massive movement, often it's unexpected events or celebrities that will make it go viral. But in the meantime, we can all help.

Thats the thing that sucks about Nostr's timing. It did have some interest on Twitter early on, but that's when it was in a pretty rough state. People showed up, it wasnt smooth, so they left. Now its matured quite a bit but it just doesnt get the attention now. Really unfortunate because it has so much potential.

Twitter has a very strong network effect

Nostr is just us rebels 😂

Sure, it just takes more users. But just like "content creators" now, only a few are going to actually be that. 99.9% of us will make our sats some other way.

Hi bro 🤟😉🏴‍☠️ nice to meet you 🤝

I think it’s entirely possible that people on Nostr could eventually make a living from their content, but it’ll likely be a bit different from traditional influencer models. It could come from a mix of voluntary support via zaps, collaborations with Bitcoin-related companies, and potentially services or paid subscriptions directly integrated into the Nostr ecosystem.

As for advertising, Nostr’s decentralized nature makes it a bit tricky to integrate traditional ad models, but perhaps community-driven monetization options could emerge, like tipping, exclusive content, or peer-to-peer products.

The future of Nostr will depend on the users creating value and finding ways to fund it that align with the ethos of freedom and decentralization. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a more direct, community-based model where creators earn based on the value they bring to their followers without relying on third-party intermediaries.

Yes, and one day not too far away because I already made £50 from random zaps as a pleb and not a 'content creator'. Figure in as well that was paid in bitcoin which will appreciate.

The v4v artists are talking about earning more here than on Spotify, you can build a whole nostr website with npub.pro and share this with fans/customers directly... if they're going to sign up to something why not nostr?
