Has anyone else's progressive friends become completely consigned to hopeless cyncicism? It's hard for me to relate to their acerbic twattery lately.

Since forever. The world is on the brink, they're just waiting for the end.
IDK, lots of reasons for them to feel optimistic. ICE attacks are getting scaled back, there's a literal socialist who's a front-runner for NYC mayor, and Trump's on the ropes in a way he hasn't been in years.
This is reinforces my impression that progressives hinge their emotional well being to the news cycle, instead of things that make normal people happy.

None of my socialist/progressive type friends are doing very well anymore.
Each time I see them, things seem to be slightly worse than before.
At the risk of sounding too "Jordan Peterson" this comes from a "victimhood mindset" where you have no agency to change things... So it's just one awful bombshell after another.
People need to accept the things they can't change, while at the same time take responsibility for making a difference where they can.

All my progressive friends are filled with a burning rage.
The anti Zionism protests have been 3 or 4 days a week for the past 2 years, the Friday and Saturday protests are getting 10s of thousands of people every week.
We are all fucking sick and tired of the Zionist pedophiles controlling our government.
It's not just the progressives that are angry and protesting against Israel either.
Everyone that cares about themselves and their own are out protesting too
