Because the media gets all up in their private lives and they take a lot of crap for nothing, so most normal people won't do the job.

You may not be aware of this, but most politicians work a job in addition to being a politician. They're usually only part-time positions and they pay peanuts or nothing at all.
Almost all politicians are someone sitting on municipal water rights management board, heading up the regional homeschooling association, running the traffic planning commission, or something.
The responses you're going to see in reply to me are the explanation why the quality of politicians is so low.
Nobody wants to listen to this shit all day and have tomatoes thrown at them in the street.
Lots of people turning down office and others only accept if they get literally begged into it.
And of you're a woman in office, the sexual harrassment is constant.
Because the population is degenerate. Don't separate yourself from humanity that easily. Ever gotten angry at how your wife stacks the dishwasher? It's because of your need for control. Control of others, and control of time. And if you can't face that you are not in control, you externalise your inner paradox and will others to change your life for you. They are those that are deepest in the illusion of control. Temporal, spatial, corporal.

Because they are socialists doing socialist things.
Because their job requires them to convince the voters that they will help a bunch which is inherently impossible.
therefore only the most professional liars and delusional people succeed.
Don't think it's just politicians these days, for that matter. Just watching am overwhelming load of "ordinary" people interact, in example, in traffic or in public spaces doesn't make politicians seem too special, just more "visible" in what they do and how they do it.
