Slight counterpoint: all in... I'll be at about $750 in hardware for my self-sovereign hardware when I get what I need to run a BTC and lightning nodes. (I'm mostly there. Just need some more drives.) I can afford to do that. I think that the knowledge I'm gaining is worth more than that fiat. It can be done cheaper, but... Maybe not better at this time.
That being said, WoS just friggin works. 😁🤣
I support the hobby if it brings you joy. And sure, it can open great doors for you in the future. But personally, having $700 worth of BTC in my outdated cold wallet and maybe $50 in a functional Lightning wallet to play around with "new stuff" on Nostr makes me happier.
Yup. Sure. But, I need to learn this so I can do other stuff in the future. Being able to run nodes and relays is kind of a side bonus.
The dumb thing is that I low-key hate all of it. 😅
Have fun (or not but keep coming back like I do🤣). I’ve killed my Umbrel VM. Feeling kind of done with Lightning. My experiments with NWC were also "meh" at best. I might try again in a couple of years, but for now, no LND node or NWC for me. I may decide to run a Bitcoin Core node on bare metal Linux, but for now, my setup is a custodial Lightning wallet for day-to-day stuff and a cold BTC wallet that still needs a micro USB cable.
