I call it Front Porch Nationalism. If I can’t see it or hear it from my front porch, it probably is out of my control and not worth wasting time, energy, or mental bandwidth on. If I can see or hear it, my interested (and those of my immediate neighbors) are served by dealing with it one way or the other.

If everyone adopted this policy, our neighborhoods (and states and nation) would all be better for it.
