Good morning, tonight I was woken up by my wife because some stranger entered our hotel room, switched on the light and quickly left.

I had to go to the reception and try to understand what the hell is happening. It seems someone might have gained the key to our room from the reception desk and some genious at the reception did not ask for the name of the guest.

Travelling for years in many countries this never happened before.

I came to the conclusion that we will have to block the door from inside every night in the future.

Did it ever happen to you?

What do you think this person was doing?

It could be that someone forgot to mark your room as rented, shift changes, new front desk clerk sells a walk-in customer an "empty room", and whoops! Hopefully, it was that innocent. Certainly a possibility .

Yes it is also a possibility. I think it might have been someone not so lucid who gave the wrong room number at the reception asking to have a copy of the card and found out it was the wrong number when he entered the room.

Damn, that is scary. Probably was hoping you were out partying or something and he could rob you while you were gone 🤷

I had a door blocker and a tactical folding knife so I could sleep the rest of the night. I will take the habit of always blocking the doors.

Could be that it's a scam where he looks for empty rooms so that he can steal from them.

Or could have been innocent and he simply gave the wrong room number.
