I believe some Nostr apps support this. We're planning on adding it to nostr:npub1pu3vqm4vzqpxsnhuc684dp2qaq6z69sf65yte4p39spcucv5lzmqswtfch. You can also mute, follow, or ignore any nostr feed, including those like nostr:npub14h23jzlyvumks4rvrz6ktk36dxfyru8qdf679k7q8uvxv0gm0vnsyqe2sh who are making reports you're not interested in seeing.
The devs implement in their clients the tools that they believe are most appropriate for their growth, this is not a democracy, others decide whether to support them or not, even implement them... in addition to expressing each user's vision

Subscribing to muting list of the other people doesn’t make much sense because we are all different human beings! You might easily be triggered by something I say and mute me, but John, for example, is fine with what I say to him and isn’t triggered. However, you've already added me to the list that someone will follow, potentially missing out on seeing my good side of personality.
I understand your point, but one cannot moderate all the spam that comes to Nostr if it becomes massive... I can't think of another simple solution without invading the individual freedom of the rest. In Bluesky I tried this on a smaller scale with the furries who were the largest community and between about 4 people without much work I managed to clean my feed
I dunno if people are leaving Nostr because of alleged hate speech, that seems like a stretch. Leaving because it lacks variety, sure, but hate speech is probably low on the criticism list.
That said, I don't have a problem with feed curation tools as long as they are at the individual level. I can see people wanting a tightly curated feed where I would prefer the wild west. One of the things I didnt like about the Fediverse is that the Instances govern what it's users see. As long as these tools are only at the individual level it doesn't bother me.

So I don't disagree with giving individuals tools so that they can make their nostr experience what they want it to be. I don't think you'll ever be able to completely stop the pile on effect that they are concerned with. Even twitter really can't stop that fully. Even if they lock their account and delete the post, people just screenshot the tweet and shit on them without them knowing. I'm indifferent to having a true block because of that. The person still potentially hundreds of people mocking them, they just cant see it. Again, as long as the individual has the power to make those decisions I'm fine with whatever tools are created.
I'm sure people have walked away from Nostr for all sorts of reasons, I just think content, ease of use, and network effects are probably the biggest obstacles to adoption. Harassment is probably a concern for some, but with 16000 average daily users or something like that, I can't imagine its the primary reason
I think people are leaving nostr because user experience, apps aren’t perfect yet, there is no search and they can’t find what they are looking for, you can’t monetize yet on here. It takes time to build things and improve. Eventually the majority of those who left will come back. I personally saw only few people complained about the harassment or trolling 🤷♂️
The search definitely is a sticking point. Its just not there yet, thats a big one. There are weird quirks like follower counts jumping around - that one doesn't bother me but I can see people being annoyed with it.
The one thing I don't know how you solve is the key pair thing. That attracted me to Nostr because it was so familiar, but I can see it having the opposite effect on people. My guess is some clients will obscure that piece while others will make it easy for users to rhn with it who want to?
In defense of the clients though, it was so bad early on. Things crashed constantly, it didnt scroll well, it was a bad experience for people coming from something more polished like Twitter. Its come so far. I worry that people left early on because they had a bad experience and haven't given it a second try now that things are leaps and bounds better.
Definitely! Key management needs to be designed ! Bitcoiners understand what is npub and nsec but normies will not ! Onboarding billion people on nostr with current set up is not going to happen!
Regrading the clients: I been here over a year now and I do remember how buggy it was and that not too many could even set up their profile pictures! Devs improved it 100x since then ! But people who are using centralized apps still having better user experience there !
I have been yelling on here about the tiny implementation as a quote notes to the devs for months it’s still fucked up and shows in the weird way that normies definitely don’t understand it was a reply or quote note 🤷♂️ just my 5 cents
Hahaha half the time I can't tell the difference between quotes and replies, i just treat them as the same thing at this point. Its funny you mentioned that because I was just thinking about that
