Can Damus and Nostur act as private storage for the user’s notes, replies and reboosts?
Nostur shows 270 days back and Damus scrolled to 1y (no more specific details).
Are notes deleted in the local storage or is it reasonable to expect that the accumulation of notes over time represents the full archive?

Relays on Nostr do a great job of keeping your data accessible, but it’s important not to count on them to store everything forever. In a decentralized system like this, it's really up to you to take care of your own data. While your notes, replies, and reboosts might be available for a while, I’d recommend backing up anything important to make sure you don’t lose it down the road.
Exactly. There are backup services but your daily nostr client is the simplest solution.
yeah its like git except we have rsync+sql functionality built in for syncing (negentropy). few understand how awesome this is.

Would be so nice to have a consolidated “archive” and view to personal stuff posted to multiple places.. It’s hard to keep track all the interaction in various channels, and impossible to follow someone across verticals (https://www.upcarta.com/).

I'm actually exploring using GunDB by Mark Nadal for a p2p network, particularly for local Web of Trust calculations. It already comes with a built-in database system and p2p connection logic, so with a few tweaks—especially considering that events are immutable—it could work really well for what you’re describing. The aim isn’t to replace the relay system but to enable clients to share events directly with their peers or sync across multiple devices. I also think this approach could relieve some of the pressure on relay servers and help Nostr scale to a larger audience.

damus keeps everything forever until you delete the app. getting it to do infinite scrollback is something I'm still working on.
I personally think its nicer on desktop. you just press a button to sync all your notes to nostrdb. then you can just backup that nostrdb file.
eventually all damus clients will ensure that your notes are backed up and synced across all your devices for redundancy.
Nostur stores your own content forever, other posts where you are mentioned for 2 months, and removes anything else after 5 days.
For WoT the follow list of people you follow is also stored forever.
And recently added chats on testflight are not stored, just in memory during chat.
I meant posts/notes, maybe content is the wrong word, because media is stored on the media server you choose, not local.
Replies and reboosts are included in the forever storage?
