what can we do?

What are your goals?
If you don't care about privacy and permissionless transactions then what I said doesn't matter. But if you do care, and want to use Lightning, then run your own LN node and jump all the technical hoops to remain private.
Or you could just use Monero. Simple to use, permissionless, and designed from the ground up around strong default privacy. You don't even have to run your own node and will still retain transactional privacy from any remote nodes you use. Amounts and addresses are always hidden, senders obfuscated. Transactions also cost less than a cent.
Thanks for that note, I’m struggling with understanding lightning and don’t trust myself to do it with self-custody.
How easy is it to switch from btc to monero?
Very easy
Use trocador.app for the quickest, cheapest, easiest way
Many more options in the "HOW DO I GET MONERO?" section depending on your preference 👇

Isn't the Trocadero app proprietary?
Yes, but not sure if open source matters with websites. You can't verify if they are running the same code on their servers anyway.
Best you can do is have no-javascript and/or an onion site. They do both.

You can also use other options on my link that don't require trust (or minimize trust) like Bisq, UnstoppableSwap, BasicSwapDEX. They are all open source software you can run and verify for yourself.
