Because its a tax. And the consumer ultimately pays the tax. Like all other taxes on consumer goods. Who do you think pays them? You cant seriously think importers are going to eat the cost can you?

Tariffed items are more expensive for consumers right? We agree there? Okay so doesn't that encourage people to not buy those items?

People used to complain about not buying local, now they complain that buying imports are too expensive.
