A thought:
We each live inside a metabolism. Metabolisms don't like burning energy if they dont have to. Prefrontal cortex uses a lot of resources. Changing neuronal connections and making new myelin is stupidly expensive. To make matters worse, strongly held beliefs are tied to sense of self with all the emotional ramifications. Literally painful to change ones mind sometimes. Almost cruel.
