So he's wrong about this? Relays hold info? https://youtu.be/qn-Zp491t4Y or Damus is a relay?

@btcsessions@nostrplebs.com

So nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 does also run a relay but the client (the app) and relay function completely independently.

The Nostr protocol doesn't have a way to natively store or send binary data, like photos, videos, etc. so there are other services like nostr.build or void.cat that have specialized to handle that aspect for apps. So Damus, Snort, etc. all use on of these services when you upload a photo.

Make sense?

Thanks... so the relays only hold text, how much text can each post be? I'm assuming this is like a blockchain / lightning ... so there are copies of this message all over the place.

It's not a blockchain in the sense that there isn't any consensus mechanism. But there are lots of copies of the data. This is more a function of what relays you connect to at this point though since there are only a few gossip implementations that actively try and spread your data to more relays.

Since events are just JSON they can hold ANY amount of text. Check out https://habla.news. It's a blogging platform on #nostr and deals mostly in type 30023 events (long-form content).
