🤚 what’s an nip 05 verification? Sorry I’m new
Discussion
Someone could gen a private/public keypair, use your name and image and start posting as you. But they can't fool people if you have "Bugs@x" nip-05, because they're tied to pubkeys. Unless people were familiar with your pubkey ending in rk3sz, they wouldn't know otherwise.
So if I put my website in there, nostr is the only one using that as an identifier? Or would people be able to see my website?
you could have bugs@bugswebsite.com if you follow the official spec instructions https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/05.md
Oh okay, seriously appreciate your time bro. Ima figure this out. I wanna attach my website bc I’m an artist, but at the same time idk if I want it attached to my nostr bc I think I wanna remain anonymous
You can make arguments for both cases. If you have questions let me know. And also post some artwork. I'm sure lots of us would love to see it.
Yes indeed. Enrich our timelines!
Good call man! I used your website to get my NIP verified. So awesome what’s goin on here. Really makes me understand what decentralization really means 🔥 more so than just holding btc and running my node!
🔥🔥🔥
now go put in a lightning address into the nostrplebs.com/manage so i can send you sats D:
😂 damn this is wild. So I go there and link my ⚡️ wallet?
Yup!
Well, you just put in a lightning address (mine is shevacai@getalby.com for example - but you can send sats to shevacai@nostrplebs.com, and I recieve it in my @getalby wallet)
Where do I put my lightning address in? Sorry for the dumb questions bro!

nostrplebs.com/manage
*It's a human readable identifier for your public key. It makes finding your profile on Nostr easier. It makes identifying your account easier. A NIP-05 ID also provides you with a shiny verified checkmark!*
NIP-05 identity. It allows you to easily be identified by something that looks like an email address, instead of a very long and complicated public key. It helps you be found and searched for too. You can read more about it here. https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/blob/master/05.md
You can host this yourself if you own a domain name and have a web server. It's honestly a very simple task, but not everyone has these things. So, I setup nostrplebs.com to help users out. You can pay a small fee in sats and get setup in no time. Other providers now exists too.
So one can set up different NIP-05 identities that all point to the same public key?
Yes, you can setup a many as you'd like, but the only one that's currently configured on your profile is displayed publicly.
Why our username can’t be used to be identified ?
Because that's not unique. You can have 10,000 @billy's out there all having the same username. Only 1 @billy@domain1.com can exist. And, @billy@domain2.com can exist and so forth. Billy Bob could tell everyone that he's the @billy@domain1.com and not any other Billy.
