Have you unlocked Damus? The app store blocks it's ability to zap and you need to unlock it.

Yep it’s unlocked. I’ve had Alby Hub working for zaps just fine, but with internet outage my hub is offline currently.

I think the cashu app needs to in the foreground to send the zap. I tested this by sending a zap in danys and then switch to the cashu.me app. It seems to work sometimes.
