there is a parable in the new testament about this, some dude tells his employees (servants) he's going away and here's a pile of talents (gold measure) and take care of it while i'm away
the primary exemplar is the one who buries the gold and "faithfully" returns it to his employer when he returns... this one gets nothing and his stack is redistributed to the best yielders of those who invested what they were given in growing their business
talent is like this, it's what you were given
skill is gained through experience and grows with the taking of risks to learn and experiment
