I believe it’s the law Section 230 that protects social medias from this type of liability, but it’s under scrutiny with a currently ongoing Supreme Court case Google vs Gonzalez.

I believe you be liable, at least in Canada. Facebook won't allow users to share news articles because it might promote misinformation, if Facebook wasn't liable for users post, I'm pretty sure they would let people post whatever they want.
