Just spent like 2 hours writing this article that explains wallets to new plebs. I know it doesn't include every single wallet out there.

Hey nostr:npub12rzunrxvx89f78h4df284lzvkjqetljkq0200p62ygwmjevx0j8qhehrv9 thanks for the repost, feel free to check out the site and let me know what you think.
Muun is not a proper lightning wallet and shouldnt be on anyones list.
Both Phoenix and Breez (unmentioned) are far superior
I agree with Vic
Ok, I forgot to add breez, that's a good one
Electrum wallet is a self custody option. My thoughts that the fees were a bit high.
Ok, thanks. Breez will be added shortly
Ok, I removed muun. adding breez
Ok, should be good to go now. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Just building this website to help new plebs out. Everything on the website is free with more to come.
Thanks Phoenix is on the website, I will remove muun
I will add breez as well, I just forgot about them
How come? Works well for me without having to pay anything to open a channel.
Sure, but itās not able to do that through magic. Every lightning send on Muun is an on-chain atomic swap. When fees are low thatās fine, and Muun will swap your UTXOs into Lightning liquidity for you. But it completely breaks down in a high fee environment and basically becomes no better than an on chain wallet.
I just need it to store then move my sats to cold storage. It does this perfectly. When fees were high on Muun, they were high everywhere else too. Everyone was complaining lol. How else can I do what Muun does without paying to open a channel? I cant find a single wallet that can go from lightning to on chain into my cold storage for no cost besides normal transfer fees. All other wallets are either lightning only, on chain only, or pay to open channels to do what I want. Im willing to switch, i just cant see the reason to spend more sats than needed. I have tried phoenix, bluewallet, etc. All wanted me to open channels.
Cash App offers that feature.
Youāre free to use Muun - all Iām saying is that the reality of the situation is there is no way to go from onchain to lightning while paying no fees unless you are using someone elseās liquidity. And that model is less efficient and requires more trust and ultimately more on chain transactions.
I used to use Muun. I tried to send a friend his first Bitcoin payment back in May in exchange for him buying me dinner. But the payment failed, and I was only able to send on chain (which wouldāve had a $25 fee)
Fees spikes like that matter much less if you have real lightning channels
