Optometrist here 👋 🇮🇪

Frames are made of terrible quality nowadays and essentially have built in obsolescence to last 4 year years max, and most shops recommending changing frames every 2 years

You use to be able to have frames made that would last your whole life and be constantly tailored but they no longer exist. You’d update the lenses when there was a significant change in the prescription

The quality of lenses themselves have probably improved though. Varifocals are much better than bifocals for example

They made light bulbs that lasted basically forever, then decided that would be bad for business so they developed them in a way that broke them after 5-10 years.
