I sat with some dogs today at a sanctuary I volunteer at and stared out at my truck. I focused in on a rust spot that someone recently made fun of. I felt an inner peace wash over me. I was grateful and happy to have that truck, a wife, relatively few health problems and an overall good life.
Besides, the joke is on the person who made the joke. I can buy multiple new trucks without debt if I want. They can't. Their entire life is on credit. But whatever. All you can do is laugh.

What is this pathological delusion amongst US Americans that they deserve to be happy and, moreover, that the universe is working towards that goal ?
Such a belief is not found in any of the world's major religious traditions, nor in philosophical traditions (no, not even in Epicureanism).
It really is bizarre. Not to mention also very tiresome when evangelized.
The catholic church used to sell absolutions for money. Why bother with any shared code of conduct outside a promise of personal gain or salvation?
