Also: Don’t invest in what you don’t at least somewhat understand is another good general idea. These kinds of “investments” are only loosely tied to the physical real estate itself. They’re usually layers of abstraction and speculation above actually owning and operating real estate as a business.
When I mentally reprice realestate in future bitcoin terms I always consider, what bitcoiner would want to own this property?
I was going to buy a property in Mexico for retirement. Since the new president took office and is eliminating property rights, I've had a change of heart. That money is going straight into bitcoin and I'll be renting forever. Hopefully paying in bitcoin.
I've had my eye on Mexico since a trip to Mexico City last year, but I haven't followed closely. I just tried to search for what you're describing, but didn't get any hits.

The new president is going to take secondary properties away from private citizens. You can only own one property. The military will engmforce it and the generals will have nice new mansions. Ita becoming Venezuela.

I'm getting all this from my cousin, who's also my attorney down there. My mother is also filling me in on the details. Her friend (a realtor)is swamped with people trying to sell their properties so they don't get taken away from them. It's a selling frenzy at the moment.
But as soon as her term ends in 6 years all that could be reversed.
