We always brushed our German Shepherd from head toward tail. He lay quietly and seemed to enjoy it.

We lived in Texas so he never really got a serious winter coat. Still ended up sitting in the middle of a pile of fluff by the end of a brush session.

I imagine Arnie grows a thick layer in the winter given where you live.
