😔 Since when is cash "unacceptable"?

I went to a store and tried to use cash.

They would not take it.

"Sorry sir, we do not accept cash."

I was informed BYUfootball is no longer taking cash.

"I'm sorry we don't take cash."

Last time I checked, cash is "legal tender" ?

(The Federal Reserve makes it legal plunder but that's a Frederic Bastiat story for later...)

I've walked out of the UtahJazz game angrier than a bird because I couldn't by an over priced milkshake for $15 with a 10 dollar bill and a 5 dollar bill.

"I'm sorry sir, we do not accept cash."

Why on Earth would a business enterprise NOT take cash?

Local restaurant just did the same. I usually pay with a card but now that they put a sign up saying they don’t accept cash, I almost don’t want to go there.

They’re trying to phase it out. I was at a concert over the weekend and they wouldn’t take cash for anything inside the venue. People have to stand up for cash.

Just walk out.

I don't support businesses that do this unless they have a monopoly and I have no choice... even in those cases I'm trying to find alternatives

Where I am there's quite a few places with "we accept cash" signs.

They are phasing it out to make way for a CBDC…

I thought that too.

some local bars here do not take cash. on the other hand, my local convenience store charges a fee (they call it a "discount for cash") for using any card, debit or credit. god love our immigrants who own the convenience stores. :)

That’s horseshit. But it’s legal unless there’s a specific state law requiring vendors to accept cash.

Legal tender only works for debts. One can demand payment in any means they want. If you go to a store and then incur a debt before payment, that’s generally a crime :)

To bring awareness… Be thankful you just got the biggest tip of your life but your distracted by your current wants you don’t see the bigger picture… Life works mysteriously you just have to see the signs

While I agree it conveniently fits with a possible desire for a cashless society, and cash offers important properties for a free society (bitcoin of course offers these properties including the ability to be cash)

Cash can introduce accounting errors, theft and fraud risk to businesses.

Let's say you work at a state park, an arena concert or event, people using cash is an easy way for workers to game the system, it's hard to track or account for.

At the end of the night everybody has to stay after and count cash and deal with the accounting office, if cash is missing (on purpose or mistake) the person missing the cash is held responsible which can suck, especially for people living paycheck to paycheck. Keep in mind there are lots of low level, not always the most experiences, highest credentialed or people with proven character involved.

The monetary properties cash offers are important. Digital advancements, technology in general is beneficial if it's not captured and controlled.

This is a push to cashless society. I recommend watching this introductory video by Catherine Austin Fitts: https://odysee.com/@pandemonium:3/Catherine-Austin-Fitts--peligro-de-las-MDBC---Moneda-Digital-de-Banco-Central---Agustin-Carstens:f
