I’m agnostic. Do you believe any given religion is a net negative for everyone?
Discussion
I’m also agnostic and yes I think it is a net negative. Hours of time and countless money is wasted on religion. Majority of scientists are not religious people. Religious people tend to slow progress because of their arbitrary rules that they try to place on people.
Fair take. I think some religions are a net positive for at least some people and could probably fetch a bunch of very detailed and verified anecdotes. I’m not sure what % of people that is tho.
I think that’s only because we’ve somewhat separated religion from government. And because most people don’t actually read their religious texts, they don’t know what it actually teaches. The preachers talking about love and peace are not actually following their religion accurately lol
I don’t think all religions are about rigid book adherence into eternity. Obviously religions evolve within themselves as society advances
That’s an opinion. The only factual information that represents a religion is what the book says. The evolution of those practices can only stray from the original message of the book. But that doesn’t make the religion any more sensible or correct.
Religion is just a habit of virtue that inclines the will to give to God what he deserves. Basically acting out one’s believes. The harm is in the believes themselves if they are incorrect or don’t lead to human flourishing like the green movement or satanism. Everyone worships someone or something, and we all practice a religion (giving to our God whether it be Jesus, Muhammad, Ourselves, Stuff, etc. what he/it deserves).
This is an opinion.
An opinion is a statement of fact from one’s point of view. Words have definitions and human nature is not exactly a mistery.
Wrong. A statement of fact requires evidence to support it.
Yes, people’s opinions are based on facts. If they didn’t believe them then they wouldn’t have those opinions.
Regardless, nothing I said earlier is controversial or disputed really. Like I said, human nature is not a mystery and words like religion have definitions.
