Read the usage guide

https://grapheneos.org/usage

and start setting up storage scopes. Install Obtanium to dl and keep track of apks. I recommend checking out fossify gallery to replace the stock gallery.

Set up your VPN, install Orbot and Tor

(Orbot does not have to take up a VPN slot)

You may have to use Google play, so you might want to install play services.

Check out silent.link esim for inbound calls and and Jmp.chat for both (it's a privacy focused jabber number service)

This will get you going. I'll add to this shortly

Use free NexDNS in your DNS in settings

Set Bluetooth to turn off automatically (I recommend "after 2 min"

Turn off NFC after use (when using yubikey etc)

Wifi: Turn off "Turn on WiFi" automatically"

Set Turn off Wifi Automatically (I recommend 10 min or less)

Working atm...will reply with more soon :-)

Signal/Molly (hardened Signal fork)

SimpleX

F-Droid Basic for apks only on f-droid. I highly recommend F-Droid Basic over F-Droid it allows for unattended updates.

As far as installing apps, a good rule of thumb is:

apk direct from dev installed via Obtanium > apk via F-Droid Basic (signed by the dev from their official repository is considered more secure than signed by f-droid) > Aurora > Google Play

Go to Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Sandboxed Google Play β†’ Google Settings β†’ Ads, and select Delete advertising ID.

Optional, but recommended: Scramble PIN layout to protect against over the shoulder attacks. I.E. Someone watches you enter your pin, then follows you, steals your device and tries to unlock it.

Settings -> Security -> Turn on Scramble PIN Layout

Go to settings and search for "Passwords & Accounts" set your system Password Manager here (I recommend Bitwarden, ProtonPass or KeepassDX)

Toggle off Google

Choose to use GrapheneOS or Google Camera. I prefer Google Camera.

Open Camera App -> settings -> Toggle off Save Location

Note: This will not save location exif data to your photos which is more secure and private, but you will not be able to search for photos by geographic location.

I highly recommend keeping this off, but some clients insist on using it, so another option is install ExifEraser and share your photos to it for processing and saving (in it's own storage scopes folder called something like, "ExifErased Media" for example) before sharing on the web.

All great advice as always

Amazing!!! 🀩 thanks Ava! πŸ™

OFC. It's not exhaustive, but off the top of my head this should get you going.

How would one identify the correct apk when there are multiple? Does it depend on which device you’re using?
