Dropping porn in threads and feeds is also a software censorship tactic and a form of psychological warfare.

If you see a bunch of people complaining about the new taxes or immigration or your newest war adventure, just post some porn in the thread. That immediately shuts down the convo. Do it a couple of times, and they'll give up on the app, entirely.

Even people who like porn don't actually want to see it everywhere they go, so you can essentially "disgust them into silence", like a flasher in a public park.

They're KYCing everyone, now, so that the flashers don't accidentally flash elementary schoolers, but you notice what they aren't doing: removing the flashers. You still can't have a normal POLITICAL conversation without people dropping porn into it.

The inmates are running the asylum.

the notion of nostr adoption is completely dead in the water at this point.

nostr is our internet. adopters will be friends of friends of friends. projects like primal are gonna slam right up against this and if they want to survive, will have to basically turn their little part of nostr into a walled garden.

meanwhile, the rest of us are going to have to totally rely on whitelisting users in order to keep these psychos out of our lives. and we will have to replicate our data and do all sorts of things to keep our little patch of the internet.

these people are the scum of the earth. i pray that the time is coming soon to put them all on the stand, and execute their sentence. this shit is so invasive, they are infiltrating every corner of our lives and pushing their agenda of enslavement everywhere.

When I got to Nostr, my threads where regularly porn-bombed and it was all over the feeds. I started TheForest, to get away from that attempt to "gross" me off the network. (It was often intentional, aggressive trolling.)

A lot of people laughed at me, and said I was creating Nostr for Girls.

But -- surprise, surprise -- most of the people viewing TheForest are men.

It turns out that men are actually happy to be able to have a conversation about important topics without constantly being distracted by naked women and encouraged to shove their hand down their pants.

Who knew?

I think giving up on Nostr adoption is a bad strategy... IMHO it will happen, and actions of the UK state and others will only push it to happen sooner rather than later.

But as you mentioned, there are tools to prevent porn spam, and future protocol developments incentivized by more users will make it easier. Web of Trust already filters out the vast majority of it.

However this might impede the "megaphone" model of social media, where your goal as a content creator is to have as many followers as possible and for the platform to allow for maximum reach.

This is one very good reason to make Nostr clients only text-based compatible. Maybe drop the URL but don't display it until the user click on it.
