I had a long thought which part of my homelab to upgrade first, and I decided to buy a large NVMe drive.

I'll put it in a PCIe -> NVME adapter and use as a boot drive.

And once I switch from 1150 to AM4, I'll just put it in a M2 slot.

Right now I have a boot 500GB 2.5 SSD which is taking up precious space and SATA ports in my box.

Seems wise enough to me!

You can also try this tool rescuezilla to clone the 2.5” onto the m.2. Then when you’re in am4 you can use the sata connections for larger storage pools
