Took my #meshtastic node to the Big City to catch some stations, but I did not realize the battery was dead, so I am charging it using an electric bus

So it loos like we're having the third Gulf War?

Everytime I see a toot in French, I have an urge to reply to it with "le oui"

OK, I have one 2025 resolution: Go to at least one hacking/tinkering/IT conference in Europe

I have profiteered from someone's else disappointing Christmas, just bought a cheap Raspberry Pi sold as a "failed present"

You know what I also enjoy about #SelfHosting ? I can abuse my services and I don't feel bad for using someone's else resources. I can work on a script and fetch an API of my resource a hundred times per hour and not be concerned that I using up some quota. It all stays in the family :blobfox3c:

I had a long thought which part of my homelab to upgrade first, and I decided to buy a large NVMe drive.

I'll put it in a PCIe -> NVME adapter and use as a boot drive.

And once I switch from 1150 to AM4, I'll just put it in a M2 slot.

Right now I have a boot 500GB 2.5 SSD which is taking up precious space and SATA ports in my box.

Almost five years working as a Python dev, and I still cannot remember the name of the function to remove whitespace from the beginning and end of a string.

Somehow it's stuck in my brain that it's called trim()

IT'S STRIP() STEFAN, STRIP()

And in other news, I started actively using Nextcloud in my homelab as "prod", mostly for storing documents and keeping calendar. I even convinced my wife to start using it for documents that need to be shared between us <3

Nie wiem czy wiecie, ale ortopeda może zajmować się tylko albo jedną nogą albo drugą. Do leczenia obydwu nóg naraz potrzebny jest andtopeda

New blog post!

This time I am exploring ESPhome, a tool to simplify using ESP based microcontrollers with Home Assistant.

I show how to install, configure it, and make two simple projects for starters.

My grandpa has always been a diy, reuse-upcycle guy. You had to be one when you were growing up in Poland just after the war. This is what he uses to cut things. It's probably older than I am, the handle is now mostly duct tape, but you can be sure it's one of the sharpest blades you've ever seen.

An amazing video about programming and computers from 1971. Writing pseudocode with chalk on blackboards, with pencil on paper and finally using typewriters. Even if you don't speak Polish, watch it just for the visuals, it's beautiful

I found a weird bug when using Ollama's QWEN2.5 model. I asked it about databases, and it gave me an answer, and then started making stories in the style of Philip K. Dick. Looks like some error in data parsing, incorrect delimiter or something. (fyi nostr:npub1gzdflh7gfumeaq0yt6gxv9d85v3hkv4zar5amquuvc64w3nn8mnsmkqlc3)

So nostr:npub1pqpuqvqkj7263auyxnqxxfjlkxw44uf82vd3cs9r7p68yrv8zlgqxz0mjq showed me an absolutely insane piece of 80s technology: A watch that can do calls, well, dial calls, by playing DTMF tones into a telephone. So cool!
