More than 20 years ago, my foreign language training school in Wenzhou hired its first foreign teachers, including a retired American farmer couple, an elderly retiree from Australia, a wandering teacher from London, a Canadian instructor, and a Nigerian woman. Since I offered them high salaries, many foreigners came hoping to get rich. However, I had my own standards! Once, a short Indian man came to apply. After chatting with him, I realized his Indian English accent was too heavy. Even as someone with a professional background in English, I couldn't understand him in many places. Thinking about it, I decided not to hire him, as it would be troublesome if he negatively impacted my students' learning!
