what color is the outer sheathing containing the wires

yellow. awg 12 cu 2 cdr with awg 12 ground 600 volts.

ok. suitable for 20 amp. just browning from prolonged use. buy and install a quality receptacle

That was my 1st thought. Throw in some 12-2 and replace the outlet with an AFCI. GFCI is great but if the arc doesn't cause a ground the power will stay live.

Hell my house was built & wired pre building code & I have 12 gauge in the walls. No grounds though funny enough
