Worth noting the was entirely safe to use provided none of the samples were removed from their containers. Likely the reason it wasn’t on shelves for long was the fact that it was expensive - the equivalent of 630 dollars in today’s currency.

Nope.. not in the 1950s. The Erector Set (from the same company) back then was between 1 and 30 dollars by comparison (the 30 dollar set was enormous) with a typical price tag of between 5 and 10 dollars.
