Today we went to the 'Cabalgata' here in Málaga. The atmosphere was great like always. A short history:
The Cabalgata de Reyes in Málaga is a traditional parade held annually on January 5th, the eve of Epiphany (Three Kings Day). This celebration dates back to at least the early 20th century in Málaga, though the tradition of celebrating the Three Kings (Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar) has much deeper roots in Spanish culture.
The parade typically follows a route through central Málaga, with the Three Kings riding on elaborate floats accompanied by music, dancers, and performers. Traditionally, they throw candies and small gifts to children watching the parade, following the tradition of the Three Wise Men bringing gifts to the baby Jesus.
What makes Málaga's Cabalgata particularly special is its integration with the city's maritime history - the Three Kings traditionally arrive by boat at the city's port before beginning their parade through the streets, reflecting Málaga's identity as a historic Mediterranean port city.
Best part for the adults: having a good vino tinto in El Palo to finish the day in the sun...
