This is now live. Not going to lie, a bit disappointed so many of you thought it was ok to do this without paying.

What exactly were people doing?

Using other people’s pubkeys (who are paying users) to view filter through their lens. It can be a cool experience and I get the appeal, but not cool for people to use it without paying.

Moreover some people decided it would be ok to use open 5 filter.nostr.wine connections simultaneously with different users pubkeys.

Mistakes happen and those users can get right back in without issue. What I am seeing is NOT mistakes.

i see. this is how reputations get ruined. unfortunate and hopefully no one in my circle

It was clearly discussed in one of the nostrnests chat today. Lots of the ring leaders involved :(

No, these are not mistakes.

weird. i do know i accidentally rolled a new privkey a couple times . glad they're locked out tho!

I will say, some interfaces like Damus make it really easy to add relays from other people’s profiles. It IS possible people added them without really knowing what they were doing or the implications. Hopefully authentication will just totally solve this problem for you all!

True! But they all came from the same nostrnests chat :)

I can’t wait for client authentication. Perhaps some bounties are needed.

Oof

Would users be stuck using one client with this type of authentication?

Nope!

Ouch! That's really rotten! The amount of work you put into this is amazing and you are hardly asking for anything!

Means a lot! Thank you for saying it. We really aren’t trying to make any money at this point, just trying to make sure we can offer a good service to the users who have paid us.

You guys are the MVPs :)

To the both of you 💜🍷

more likely a mistake, imo. juggling npubs and nsecs isn't easy for people.

Disappointing

what about using someone else’s filter as a paid user? i’ve had a few people that didn’t get the bit about replacing the npub and it may be a noob mistake

Could that be Blastr?

No I am looking at individual relay lists.

Whatever can be abused will be abused on the internet. Imagine creating a magic internet money with economic incentives to exploit in the billions... makes you appreciate everyone that works on those protocols, thinking about every crazy way to exploit.

Absolutely. And we of course knew this would happen the day we released this, just a bit sad to see some of the people who chose to do it at this early stage of protocol development/projects.

That indeed is disappointing.

Good work and good riddance.

Sorry to hear that Mazin, hopefully they know whatever they have done and never repeat those kind of action again

🧐really hmmmm. I have paid actually you paid for me….
