I would agree except that I seem to have grown out of video games in recent years too. Not because I don’t like them, but because I increasingly feel the progress to be empty and unrewarding. It costs so much time to have nothing real to show for it. I just know it’s not going anywhere. I’d rather work on something real.

I think most people say “grow up” because they think people are supposed to go to work and not have time for games. But as someone who used to game constantly, it also just seems much less meaningful after I found work that I actually liked to do.

So there could be two different sides to that coin maybe. 🤔

there also used to be a compelling story in great games such as half life, that has gone missing

I always loved a game with a good story. Miss those days. Feels like that is less and less a thing now.

the sequel to Beneath a Steel Sky was really disappointing in this regard... the original was oozing narrative but the new ones just really badly written, badly acted
