Here are my channels.

In total they cost me about 2500 sats to open.

These channels have allowed me to send thousands of transactions (mostly zaps) without any fees.

Yes you may pay a "high" fee to open a channel now.

But you use that channel for years to come.

Two questions for you if you don’t mind:

1) What hardware do you have your lightning node on? I had one on an Umbrel Raspberry Pi and it worked well enough but was still too unreliable. Thinking of using an old thinkpad instead.

2) is your node behind Tor or clearnet, or both?

Thanks!

Clearnet only, running on an old workstation that my dad's company was throwing away (Intel i5 + 8gb ram)

Thanks!

Goals.

.🍊💊⚡🫂 Lightning Network is very cool in my opinion and useful in the future

Appreciate this. The message is this. It's still cheap just not as cheap as two weeks ago. So act accordingly.

You do however need to have a relatively high amount of capital locked in Lightning channels to accomplish this?

Well in this case my node is used for business, most plebs don't need a full coin to send payments.

5-6 1m sat channels probably good for most people

My concern is that err body wants Lightning to be non custodial, but who has 10x the sats they keep in their custodial wallet to lock up just to achieve non custodial wallet status? I don’t want to risk my cold wallet holdings.

This is where liquidity providers come in. Unless you are trying to be a routing node, the only outgoing liquidity you need is what you plan to spend. You can buy incoming liquidity for whatever you need to be able to receive.

Most people will not need to be a full fledged routing node.

The incoming liquidity is usually only good for a set amount of time then you have to repurchase? Also one channel isn’t sufficient you’d need multiple correct? I don’t need to be a routing node.

It would depend on the provider and their terms as to how long the channel stays open. Multiple channels with different nodes will give you more redundancy if one channel goes down, for instance.

Very accurate. My node only has a handful of small channels and is very useable for any payment less that $100. Anything bigger, I still make on-chain. It also becomes more useable for big purchase as Bitcoins dollar value increases.

How do you have a 50 million sat channel I thought channels were capped to 16 million?
