I would like to be able to gather more data to help me falsify or validate a working hypothesis I have.

My hypothesis is the following, just so you know that I’m not trying to trick you.
I think that we’re starting to see evidence that we’re getting an influx of new bitcoiners who have only been exposed to the Lightning Network but not Bitcoin’s base layer.

Ok, so you already have extensive experience transacting on the base layer.
Been holding Bitcoin for years. Nostr really made learn to use it with a more day to day perspective instead of a store of value. WoS was my first real step into lighting.

I'm new to WoS and lightning thanks to Nostr. But not new to Bitcoin. I've been around Lightning since its early days and have met/chat with Liz Stark IRL several times back in 2017-ish but never actually interacted on L2 until now.
So I'm actually an opposite case from what you're describing. Though, I might be an outlier...
No I don’t think you’re an outlier.
I think that’s the case for many people, me included.
I think at some point in the future, there will be a new wave of adopters who, as you describe, have only ever interacted on L2 and not base layer. I think that trend will emerge as normie adoption picks up and UX continues to improve on various L2 dapps.
Yes! It’s already occurring in the legacy system. This will occur as transactions ₿ecome too expensive for daily users.
My hypothesis is that that is already starting to happen
Up until recently I belive the majority of users of LN were from developing nations. For those populations already pushed to the brink, LN is a necessity.
I think nostr has been one of the first significantly effective pushes into the first world population. It provides them a wider more appealing use case for LN. Value4value/zaps resonate in the culture of the first world users. It's an evolution of the underlying psychological principles of why pokes/likes/👍🏽/❤️ are now standard social media functions.
This is only the tip of the iceberg though. Still a long way to go but nostr is the first of (hopefully) many other catalysts towards onboarding the world.
